Week 4 Synthesis: Curating Through MCBS

As I worked on developing my digital story throughout this month, I found myself referring back to the MCBS Symbaloo several times to access resources to create a better digital story. After this experience, I can see why it's important and extremely helpful as a media creator to curate content in order to create better quality and professional projects whether it's videos, storyboards, presentations, graphics and much more. The assets I curated this month are definitely worth keeping as well as continuing the habit of curating for future classes and projects. It's also helpful as I gain clients and provide them recommendations on resources we can use to execute their projects affordably but with quality. A new habit I developed is using a tool like Symbaloo. It's a neat alternative to bookmarking to organize resources you want to come back to later. I typically create bookmark folders and and curate assets within those folders; but if for ...

Week 4 Reflection: RISE Peer Feedback

I find it so interesting how you, Gilbert, went from the United States Army to Media Communications at Full Sail. Although I cannot relate as far as our backgrounds, I do relate in having a family and deciding to go back to school to switch my career path or to enhance my career. I really like the music you used for your video. It's very elevating and motivational. I also can hear your voice over somewhat in the beginning but at about 30 seconds into the video, the music gets louder and I can no longer hear your voice. After following the story in your video from the graphics alone, I see you are mainly interested in Video Game Storytelling - is that what made you choose Media Communications or are you currently completing both Video Game Design and Media Communications programs? W hat made you go to Full Sail after the army?   I am so curious to hear the rest!  Have you considered expanding your digital story by diving deepe...

Week 3 Project: Digital Storytelling Challenge

Image
Our group started out with communicating through the messages in Full Sail Online, then went on to email and picked our roles. As we got to the weekend and we all had plans, we started collaborating in Google Hangouts so we could communicate even on the go. Google Hangouts definitely moved things along with our group because everyone had plans for the weekend so it was a more efficient, instant way to collaborate. Individual Roles Denisse Lebron - Project Coordinator/Graphics Jada Lee - Video Editing/Audio Gilbert Medina - Script/Video Editing We each chose our roles in the group. I chose project coordinator and graphics. I began communication within our group, initiated picking roles, and suggested UberEats as the brand we were going to use in our video. I then did some research on UberEats and created a document that outlined the brand, it's company message, our roles and an idea that came to mind for the video message. I ...

Week 3 Analysis: Businesses & Audiovisual Media

Describe how this  Full Sail video  is used as a recruitment tool. Is there a story here? If so, what is it? The Full Sail video describes who they are, about their students and then go into a problem they encountered: how can they empower the students from their onset of their education? Then, they go into the solution: Project LaunchBox. So, there is definitely a story with a clear beginning, middle, end that includes an introduction, problem and solution. This video is a highly effective recruitment tool because it goes into depth about why the school is different, ways they use technology and how they have implemented solutions to ensure the success of their students. Their storytelling method would intrigue any media student researching a school to attend since they share solutions to the most common issues students may face including the ability to access the media tools at all times, the latest technology, obtaining a degree as fast possible, and being ...

WK3 Exploration: Team Organization

After viewing the example videos in the Challenge Guidelines, what type of video are you most enthusiastic about producing  (photos with narration, original video production, animated project, etc.)  and why? After viewing the example videos, I am excited about creating a video with narration and an original video production. I have not created a video before with actual live clips within the video; I have only created videos with photos and a narration.  Upon viewing the Challenge Guidelines, I am considering participating in which role and why? I volunteered to take the project coordinator role and the graphics role. I feel I excel in all aspects of coordination including communication, brainstorming how things will get done and the implementation of our discussions. I also like to find and feel I do well in finding photos and graphics that communicate a message.  Which collaboration app(s) would you suggest to your team? I am a Google gal so my recommen...

Week 2 Analysis: Brands & The Human Connection/Curating 3

The Dove "You're More Beautiful Than You Think" online advertisement targets women. This advertisement emotionally resonates with women that struggle with common insecurities like not feeling beautiful enough. It demonstrates how women tend to view themselves and how it compares to how others view  them and identifies  how women judge themselves and their beauty when, really, they are already beautiful.  Since the 1960's, Dove has incorporated a "real women" approach in their advertising. This video is yet another effective campaign that communicates their brand message which is about teaching women  around the world to appreciate their natural  beauty.  Dove engages with their audience by using real women in their advertisement with different looks and nationalities. They incorporate storytelling  with the  personal story of each woman and how they see themselves or what they have been told by either their mom or friends. These stories rela...

Week 1 Project: My MCBS Story

Image
Before I started the MCBS program, I was looking for a new direction to take in my professional career. I started working in a small business environment at a very young age and had the advantage of having many mentors in my career which allowed me to start my own business early on. I had always thought college was just another business, another way to get into debt and I could get by with work experience and certifications along the way. So, I did. I left Arizona State University and focused on getting certifications in internet marketing and social media marketing. I started my own business and worked as a freelancer for a variety of clients around the world for 7 years. After working as a freelancer, I had the opportunity to return to a normal job. After working there for almost three years, I started feeling like I was no longer growing professionally and my career had no meaning. Because of that, I started searching for new avenues I could take or hobbies I could apply ...
