Week 3 Analysis: Businesses & Audiovisual Media
Describe how this Full Sail video is used as a recruitment tool. Is there a story here? If so, what is it?
The Full Sail video describes who they are, about their students and then go into a problem they encountered: how can they empower the students from their onset of their education? Then, they go into the solution: Project LaunchBox. So, there is definitely a story with a clear beginning, middle, end that includes an introduction, problem and solution. This video is a highly effective recruitment tool because it goes into depth about why the school is different, ways they use technology and how they have implemented solutions to ensure the success of their students. Their storytelling method would intrigue any media student researching a school to attend since they share solutions to the most common issues students may face including the ability to access the media tools at all times, the latest technology, obtaining a degree as fast possible, and being prepared for their career of choice.
Describe how this Dollar Shave Club video is used to announce a new product. Is there a story here? If so, what is it?
Dollar Shave Club uses humor and quirkiness to evoke laughter in their audience in introducing their new product: butt wipes. Their approach in promoting a new product definitely keeps you watching because of the quirky scenes and storytelling. It is funny and somewhat shocking; however a form of very real storytelling. They address real problems, most of which are undisclosed or private, that men (and women) encounter with the use of toilet paper or other "primitive method" while making their audience laugh at their silliness. It's daring and different from how other companies promote their products, yet like the Full Sail video, they discuss the problem and how they solve the problem which is the most important element of an advertisement.
