Content Management Systems (CMS)

The purpose of this activity is to begin getting familiar with what a CMS is and the different website builders that are available in order to build a website for a client.

I decided to use SquareSpace for the Reel Deal Tacos website.

I chose Square Space because I have heard much about it and used it maybe once in the past, but it's been a long time since I used their platform. Their themes have a nice, clean, simple and modern style that fits well with a food truck business.

As I mentioned, I may have used it in the past but it's been so long I can't remember if I liked the platform. I typically tend to lean more towards Weebly and WordPress, so I probably didn't find it as easy and user-friendly as these two since I never used it again after that first time.

I decided to use it because I am always interested in learning new things and gaining experience with different CMS platforms. Working as a freelancer you can encounter many different types of software being used by a variety of clients, so it's always a benefit to get familiar with different software or platforms just in case a new client comes along that uses it.

I definitely want to leverage a map feature, a menu and gallery feature and a social media widget that shows the social feed if possible.

I feel like every CMS is different and everyone has different ways they work or features they like better than others. I also feel that choosing the right theme is one of the most important parts of building a website as well as the budget so this will determine what platform will be used. If I have more flexibility, I always recommend WordPress. If it's a small budget, I will probably use Weebly because you can literally get a website launched in minutes. The few times I worked with Wix, I wasn't too fond of their ease of use, which is funny since they are rated as the top builder.
